| The
beginning of the satellite schools was for the neglected children
of the locality. First informal education was started for
them in St. Mary’s premises. The sisters saw to their
basic needs and taught them. Some of our St. Mary’s
girls too contributed their share in forming these underprivileged
ones. As the number of children increased, a house in Jhamsikel
was bought and the school continues for these financially
challenged children.
Mary Ward School, Jhamsikhel:
In 1986, Mary Ward School was started in Jhamsikhel
for the very poor children. Sisters Frances and Asha did all
they could to look after these children, bathing them, combing
their hair and giving them food, etc. Soon the students achieved
a sense of cleanliness and began to study. They have regular
eye check up, hair cutting programmes organized by the ASMAN.
They are given midday meal everyday, their uniforms and books
are taken care of, so that they can study in a normal atmosphere.
Tailoring and Literacy classes are also conducted for young
girls and women. At the end of the tailoring course, they
receive a Diploma so that they can work on their own and be
self-reliant.
Mary Ward School, Lubhu:
The school in Jhamsikhel is up to the fifth grade.
In order to give these children an opportunity to study up
to Class ten, Mary Ward School in Lubhu was started in 1997,
as an extension of Jhamsikhel school. It has already sent
out three batches of SLC students. Out of those, a few who
are good in study are sent to other schools to complete their
plus 2. Lubhu also has regular medical check up programmes
and coaching classes for the students. Midday meal is provided
for the lower class students.
There is a Centre for Literacy and Tailoring for women. At
the end of the course, they receive a Diploma which helps
them to be self-supporting.
A small dispensary run by the sisters
renders treatment to the children and poor people around the
village. The sisters move out to the nearby villages providing
them with medical assistance.
